CannabizTeam recently released the 2020 Cannabis Industry Salary Guide, updated to reflect Q3 of this year. Yeji Jesse Lee, a writer with Business Insider, reviewed the guide and took a deep dive into the cannabis industry jobs that are currently offering 6-figure salaries. Her article, “Cannabis salaries are soaring. Here are the 24 jobs where you can take home a 6-figure salary in the $31 billion industry,” published on September 25.
“Cannabis salaries are increasing as companies poach executives and senior management from other sectors like retail, consumer packaged goods, pharmaceuticals and biotech,” says Lee. “That’s especially true for top-level positions. The average salary for executive positions rose 16% in the first half of 2020 compared with 2019.”
The article goes on to list out each position included in the CannabizTeam salary guide that is seeing a median salary of $100,000 or higher in 2020. Brief job descriptions are included for each position. Some of the cannabis jobs with the highest salary growth include:
- Director of HR — Median salary of $174,750 — 15% increase from 2019
- Director of Compliance — Median salary of $128,500 — 16% increase from 2019
- Director of Cultivation — Median salary of $189,000 — 16% increase from 2019
- VP of Retail, multistate — Median salary of $190,750 — 16% increase from 2019
- E-commerce Manager — Median salary of $138,250 — 18% increase from 2019
Lee continues, “The cannabis industry is estimated to be worth $31 billion by 2025, according to Cowen analyst Vivien Azer. If Arizona and New Jersey legalize adult-use cannabis in November, and Mississippi and South Dakota allow medical marijuana, that figure could rise to $34 billion.”
