Hawaii Senate Approves Bills to Legalize Recreational Cannabis & Increase Decriminalization

One bill would legalize cannabis for adults 21 and over and the other will increase the decriminalization to over three grams. Both bills were approved by the Senate Committee on Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs and will head to a joint hearing between the Senate Judiciary and Ways and Means committees. 37 Members of Congress Request for President Biden to Issue Cannabis Pardons

President Biden has been asked to authorize mass pardons for all people with non-violent federal cannabis convictions. In the 1970s, Presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford were asked to categorically forgive Americans who dodged the Vietnam War draft. The 37 members of Congress took inspiration from that request in the 70s. With five more states legalizing cannabis last year and a House vote in favor of a bill to legalize cannabis federally, the request isn’t too bold.
