Cherlyn is a polished cannabis marketing professional with 8 years of direct experience working for startup companies helping launch brands.
Over the course of her cannabis career, she has implemented and managed sales and marketing strategies for retailers, CPG brands, auxiliary companies, and MSOs through public relations, cross-channel targeted advertising campaigns, community outreach programs, events, and partnerships – to successfully grow brand awareness, increase media coverage, and increase consumer transactions.
Cherlyn assisted in opening one of Washington’s first adult-use cannabis retail stores. She got her start leading the sales team in reaching and exceeding monthly sales goals through product education and customer service training and helped build communication systems for the purchasing, inventory, and operations departments before settling into her role as Marketing Manager.
Her experience working directly on the sales floor with customers and across departments for a startup cannabis retailer provided first-hand experience in fully understanding the customer journey which aided in building successful marketing strategies that were in compliance with state laws.
As Marketing Manager, she was responsible for launching and growing customer retention programs which included spearheading a first-of-its-kind loyalty program.
The loyalty program successfully acquired 60,000+ members within 3 years, boosted average transaction spending by 40%, and optimized brand engagement and customer retention through competitive spending incentives, in-store and external advertising campaigns, field marketing tactics, and cross-departmental collaboration.
Cherlyn built and managed 20+ relationships with media outlets inside and outside of the cannabis industry, landing earned coverage through pitches and press releases which successfully increased positive public perception and brand validity, website hits, and foot traffic.
She was also responsible for negotiating paid advertising to fit within budget expenses and ensuring adequate ROI across targeted high traffic print and digital platforms.
Cherlyn’s most recent experience as Senior Account Executive for a startup cannabis public relations agency allowed her to expand her portfolio and build strategic consumer marketing and media plans for brands across the east and west coast – successfully landing coverage for clients in national publications.
