CannabizTeam’s CEO Liesl Bernard was recently interviewed by Marijuana Business Magazine for its “Question of the Month” column. This month’s Marijuana Business Daily column was focused on end-of-year bonuses in the cannabis industry and published in the November/December 2020 issue of Marijuana Business Magazine.
A monthly initiative coordinated by reporter Omar Sacirbey, “Question of the Month” surveys a group of cannabis industry experts for their viewpoint on important industry questions. With the end of the year quickly approaching, this month’s question was: How will the events of 2020 change end-of-year bonuses? Will companies cut, maintain or increase these bonuses?
“With the cannabis industry still in its relative infancy, we don’t see many cannabis businesses pay what would be considered traditional year-end bonuses seen in other, more maure industries,” says Liesl. “What we are starting to see with increasing frequency for cannabis executives are targeted bonuses agreed upon during hiring that link to pre-established KPIS.”
Liesl goes on to describe a specific example of a cannabis staff hire client CannabizTeam worked with to negotiate a bonus based on targeted production and revenue results.
